Canary Technology Solutions buys Brisbane IT group Wyntec

Sydney-based Canary Technology Solutions, a business that was founded in 2022 through the merger of three businesses, has expanded further in Queensland through the acquisition of Brisbane managed information technology (IT) services provider Wyntec.

Canary Technology Services, formed through the merger of IT Consult, Diversus Group and BCPrise, says the deal for Wyntec will expand the group’s managed IT services offering and firm up its position as a key player in the Australian market.

Wyntec, which was founded in 20 provides a suite of IT services with its strengths in digital transformation, cybersecurity, cloud and networking.

The business has grown rapidly in recent years, aided by the acquisition of cybersecurity awareness training provider Layer 8 Security in 2022.

“This acquisition is a strategic move to increase our presence in Queensland and further enhance our managed IT services capabilities,” says Steve Parsonage, CEO of Canary Technology Solutions.

“By bringing together our expertise and resources, we’re taking a significant step towards our vision of delivering smarter, more responsive IT solutions for businesses across Australia.

“As part of our commitment to both organic and inorganic growth strategies, this partnership allows us to grow strategically while staying true to our mission of using technology as a catalyst for business transformation. We are excited to welcome Wyntec into the Canary Technology Solutions family.”

While financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, the move is in line with Canary Technology’s previously announced multi-year growth strategy.

Parsonage and his fellow IT Consult co-founder Bill Henderson led the 2022 merger with Diversus Group and BCPrise and the rebranding of the business to Canary Technology Services.

At the time, the merger had doubled lead partner IT Consult’s revenue to $25 million and more than tripled staff numbers while substantially expanding its service offerings and customer base.

Diversus Group is a specialist in cloud, information management and data storage consultancy and NetApp’s largest certified delivery partner in Australia, while BCPrise is a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central specialist.

Following the rebranding to Canary Technology Services, Parsonage laid plans for further expansion of the group both organically and through acquisitions after declaring that Canary was “only just getting started”.

Wyntec is said to have built a strong reputation in the Queensland market for its “holistic approach” to managed IT services.

“Joining forces with Canary Technology Solutions is a natural fit for Wyntec,” says Tom Freer, the Wyntec CEO.

“We share a deep commitment to putting people and processes at the heart of our technology solutions, and our alignment on future vision makes this partnership a perfect match.

“Together, we will continue to deliver exceptional value to our clients, driving innovation and supporting businesses as they navigate an ever-evolving tech landscape.”

Canary Technology Solutions drew inspiration for its moniker from the ‘canary in the coalmine’ theme with its role centred on the early detection of threats to data and protection against system breaches.

Canary Technology Solutions, which has offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, currently services clients in the finance, health, construction, not-for-profit and government sectors.

Wyntec has dedicated departments that specialise in MSP (managed service provider) services including networking, hardware and infrastructure while also incorporating digital transformation services, innovation, and end-to-end vendor management services.
